Description

When Brahms' contemporaries heard the Piano Pieces op. 118 that he had composed during his 1893 summer holiday in Ischl, they were delighted. Clara Schumann was one of the first to be allowed to experience the new works, and she attested that they contained "a wealth of sentiment in the smallest of dimensions." Philipp Spitta aptly described the pieces as "perfect for slowly absorbing in solitude and tranquillity." This opus 118 volume includes two of Brahms' best-known miniatures - the Intermezzo in A major and the Romanze in F major. We highly recommend this edition, based on the New Brahms Complete Edition, for those wishing to immerse themselves in the composer's late-period works.
