How can we effectively narrate the story of our transcendent God who became human . . . embracing the condition of the poorest among us and the weakest of the weak . . . to grant us His infinite, eternal life? How can we honor such a momentous occasion? The narrative ought to be recounted through both cherished traditions and the freshness of the present. It should be celebrated with unrestrained joy as well as profound, quiet contemplation. It should be expressed with immense power and sincere tenderness, exalting our magnificent God with both courage and childlike humility. This retelling, this celebration, is our prayer for An Evening in December. May it provide you with a renewed perspective of "Emmanuel, God with Us," and fill your heart with a fresh melody of gratitude and praise. Duration: 39 minutes, 44 seconds.

Bach's existence was characterized by "a quest for all that was best in his art to refine it in the fire of his genius," as noted in Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians. His exceptional command of rhythm and harmony, along with his inventive spirit and compositional brilliance, resulted in some of the most profound and exquisite music ever created. These attributes are particularly prominent in his early concerti, which rank among the most frequently recorded and performed pieces within the baroque canon.

ne of the key roles that Bach undertook during his tenure in Leipzig was his leadership of the local collegium musicum from 1729 to 1741. This organization was a voluntary assembly of professional musicians and university students who held regular public concerts on a weekly basis. For these well-attended events, Bach composed the six concertos featured in this collection. These works are historically significant as they represent some of the earliest keyboard concertos ever created, and they remain subjects of study and performance due to their exceptional and vibrant musical characteristics.

Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit (Mighty God, His time is ever best) BWV 106, known as Actus tragicus, is a cantata intended for funeral services. Due to the absence of original records regarding its first performance, determining the exact year of its creation remains elusive. However, the notable similarities to the cantatas BWV 131 Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, Herr, zu Dir, likely composed in 1707, and BWV 71 Gott ist mein König from 1708, both of which were written in Mühlhausen, imply that this funeral cantata may have also been composed in Mühlhausen around 1707.
