Description
A significant amount of Scottish fiddle music was gathered and created by individuals who have largely been forgotten, not due to any inferiority in their work, but simply because the collections they produced have become exceedingly hard to locate. In contrast, the more prominent "fiddler-composers" (such as Gow and Marshall) have remained in the public consciousness thanks to writers, artists, and the music publishing industry, while others have nearly vanished from memory. A wealth of truly remarkable dance music -- including strathspeys, reels, quicksteps, and jigs -- awaits rediscovery. This book features music from several of the lesser-known talents active between 1780 and 1820. Consider it an initial step towards reigniting the search for the gems of the Scottish repertoire. There is much more where this came from! All the music in this collection follows the composers' original published versions of the melodies and includes chord symbols to provide the original "bass" part.
