Description

Brahms primarily composed his eight Piano Pieces, Op. 76, during the summer of 1878 while staying at the lakeside resort of Pörtschach on Lake Wörth. Brahms' close friend Theodor Billroth was enthusiastic about the new works, describing them as "magnificent pieces, beautiful and interesting to play" that "lie so well under the hand for those who are a little used to Schumann's and Chopin's technique that it is a pleasure to practise them." These "magnificent pieces" are now presented in the new volume of the Johannes Brahms Complete Edition (HN 6014), replacing the previous volume HN 118 and accompanied by insightful commentaries on their creation and publication.
