Description
Franz Liszt maintained a lifelong admiration for Schubert. In his performances, he showcased Schubert’s songs through piano transcriptions, achieving remarkable success that caught the attention of publishers. Consequently, starting in 1838, a variety of Liszt-Schubert arrangements were published, often featuring simplified versions of the most challenging sections to appeal to a broader audience. The effectiveness of this approach is evident from the numerous editions and reprints that circulated across Europe during Liszt’s lifetime. With the release of this Urtext edition of “Aufenthalt” (Resting Place), G. Henle Publishers initiates a series dedicated to these captivating reflections of Liszt’s passion for Schubert. Editor Andrea Lindmayr-Brandl has meticulously reviewed the available editions, while renowned pianist Evgeny Kissin has contributed fingerings and assisted in selecting the pieces.
