Description

Alongside his weighty chamber music works like piano quartets and violin sonatas, Gabriel Fauré also composed several charming miniatures for violin and piano. One of his best-known pieces is the Berceuse op. 16 in D major, which gained popularity following its premiere in 1880 and led to countless arrangements being published.

The melodic subject matter and colorful piano writing in the Berceuse are reminiscent of Fauré's Violin Sonata No. 1 in A major, which he had composed shortly before. This Urtext edition is the first to utilize the autograph sketches of the original violin version as well as Fauré's own orchestration manuscript.
