Description
The eight Spanish Dances (HN 1370) by Sarasate incorporate existing material – folk melodies or works by renowned composers – which the composer then blended with his own captivating musical language. Specifically, Playera and Zapateado, op. 23 (nos. 5 and 6 in the third volume of Spanish Dances), were written in the summer of 1879. Zapateado, in particular, is a breathtaking, highly virtuosic dance that showcases the violin's technical capabilities, quickly becoming one of Sarasate's most successful performance pieces. This standalone edition published by Henle has retained the work's enduring appeal and continues to enjoy great popularity.
