Description
The cellist Robert Hausmann had requested a cello concerto, but Brahms instead paired the cello with a violin in his "Double Concerto." While this unusual work has been available as part of the new Brahms Complete Edition for several years, Johannes Umbreit has now produced a playable piano setting that optimally renders the score's colourfulness, using Brahms' original piano reduction. The experienced soloists Frank Peter Zimmermann and Heinrich Schiff have provided fingerings and bowings for the string parts. Additionally, the orchestral parts, based on the Complete Edition, are available from Breitkopf & Härtel (PB/OB 16104).
