Description

Brahms created his Sonata for Piano and Cello over a span of three years, from 1862 to 1865. As a pianist himself, Brahms remarked that the piano should serve as an equal partner to the cello, rather than merely providing accompaniment. He also claimed that the sonata, "as far as both instruments are concerned, is certainly not difficult to play." However, very few musicians would concur with this assertion. Several prominent themes within this sonata are derived from fugues in Bach's 'The Art of Fugue.' Edited by Klengel. Peters Asta Grade 5
