Description
The exact number of violin sonatas composed by Joseph Haydn is unknown, as the authorship of several works attributed to him remains uncertain. In fact, there is evidence that the G major Sonata Hob. XV:32 may be Haydn's sole original contribution to this genre. The striking similarity between the opening of this sonata and the theme of the second movement from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Sonata in G major K. 301 (also a two-movement violin sonata) could be interpreted as a deliberate quotation.
