Description

The b-minor Sonata is part of a group of six piano sonatas that, according to Haydn's own handwritten catalogue, were composed in 1776. However, the original autograph has not survived, and the first published edition from 1778 was not authorized by Haydn. Despite this, numerous manuscript copies exist in which Haydn disseminated these six sonatas. This transmission history is quite typical for the composer, and the separate Urtext edition presents it in a way that is optimally comprehensible for Haydn enthusiasts. Edited according to the standards of the Haydn Complete Edition, the musical text is supplemented with ergonomic fingerings by Stephen Hough, offering the ideal conditions to discover this treasure among Haydn's sonatas.
