Description

Haydn's concertante works, composed during his time at the court of the Princes of Esterházy, showcase the individual talents of the Esterhazy court orchestra's musicians. For instance, the Violin Concerto in C major Hob. VIIa:1 was written specifically for the court's renowned concertmaster, Luigi Tomasini, a celebrated violinist and composer of the era. Tomasini's virtuosic playing and distinctive Italian style seem to have inspired Haydn to create this technically brilliant and sonically lush concerto, which retains a quasi-Baroque character. Our Urtext edition, published by G. Henle Verlag, is based on the Haydn Complete Edition. The detailed preface outlines the sources consulted, and the edition features sophisticated string bowings and fingerings by Kurt Guntner, as well as cadenzas composed by Franz Beyer.
