Description
The early Piano Sonata op. 4 offers interesting insights into the young Chopin's compositional development. Likely written during his student years at the Warsaw Conservatory, the nineteen-year-old composer presented this highly prized work to the publisher Tobias Haslinger on a visit to Vienna. However, the still unknown Chopin was rebuffed by the publisher. It was only later, when Chopin had reached the height of his fame, that Haslinger saw a business opportunity - but this time, Chopin declined. Consequently, Chopin's first sonata was never published during his lifetime. This long-obscured work is now available for the first time in Henle quality, providing a rare glimpse into the early creative evolution of the celebrated composer.
