Description
Chopin left behind only a few works in the sonata form, the classical era's primary compositional structure. Yet among these, the Piano Sonata Op. 58 stands as one of his most significant. While more conventionally structured than the earlier B-flat minor Sonata, it nonetheless brims with romantic poetry, irresistible melodies, and brilliant virtuosity.
The latest Henle Urtext edition has been revised based on a broader foundation of sources. This includes a student copy containing revealing corrections from Chopin's own lessons, as well as a later impression of the French first edition that incorporates the composer's own corrections. As a result, the B-minor Sonata now features an improved musical text accompanied by extensive commentary.
