Description
Chopin produced only a limited number of works in the classical sonata form, with the Piano Sonata op. 58 standing out as one of his most significant contributions. While it exhibits a more traditional structure compared to the earlier b flat minor Sonata, it shares with its predecessor a wealth of romantic expression, captivating melodies, and exceptional virtuosity. The latest revision of the Henle Urtext edition has been developed using a more comprehensive array of sources. This includes an additional student copy that features insightful corrections from Chopin’s lessons, as well as a later impression of the French first edition, which is particularly noteworthy due to the incorporation of Chopin’s own corrections. As a result, the b minor Sonata is now presented with an enhanced musical text and extensive commentary.
