Description

As a renowned pedagogue and composer, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, the second eldest son of Johann Sebastian Bach, was a preeminent figure in keyboard music during the transitional period between the Baroque and Classical eras. This three-volume collection presents a chronological selection of over 150 of his keyboard sonatas, highlighting their attractiveness and variety. Notably, it includes many previously unpublished sonatas, as sixty of Bach's keyboard works remained unprinted during his lifetime.

The second volume contains twelve sonatas composed between 1749 and 1758. The Urtext edition is based on authoritative sources, including autographs, first prints from Bach's lifetime, and manuscript copies from his circle. Darrell M. Berg's preface provides valuable performance guidance, particularly regarding the proper execution of the prescribed ornaments. A table outlining the most important embellishments and their correct rendition further equips the player to interpret Bach's keyboard sonatas.
