Description

The decisive influence of Norwegian folk music on Edvard Grieg's compositions is evident in almost all of his works. For his Norwegian Dances op. 35, presented here in an Urtext edition, Grieg drew from a collection of old folk tunes published by the musician and researcher Ludvig Mathias Lindeman, which he then arranged for piano four hands in 1880. A few years later, Grieg also created the two-hand version featured in this Henle Urtext edition. In preparing this edition, the editors consulted all extant autographs from the Grieg Archive in Bergen, Norway, as well as the contemporary first editions. The Norwegian pianist and Grieg specialist Einar Steen-Nøkleberg served as co-editor and provided the fingerings.
