Description

The decisive influence of Norwegian folk music on Edvard Grieg's compositional style is evident in nearly all his works. This is particularly apparent in his Norwegian Dances, Op. 35, composed in 1880, which are presented here in an Urtext edition. These four-hand piano arrangements draw upon traditional folk tunes that Grieg sourced from a collection published by the Norwegian musician and scholar Ludvig Mathias Lindeman. For this Henle Urtext edition, the editors consulted all available autograph manuscripts from the Grieg Archive in Bergen, Norway, as well as the original published editions. The Norwegian pianist and Grieg specialist Einar Steen-Nøkleberg served as the co-editor and provided the fingerings.
