Description
The Fantasiestücke of 1864 by the Danish composer Niels Wilhelm Gade are an essential part of the clarinet repertoire, alongside Robert Schumann's identically titled op. 73. Gade, who lived in Leipzig for many years, was a close friend of Schumann's. With this deeply romantic composition, Gade made an important contribution to establishing the clarinet as a chamber music soloist.
The four pieces in this collection can be performed separately and serve as ideal teaching material. Our editor, the clarinettist Nicolai Pfeffer, has drawn upon the German and Danish first editions as well as the autograph in Copenhagen, enabling him to eliminate discrepancies found in older editions.
