Description
The definitive 1987 edition of the piano teaching classic Mikrokosmos includes an introduction by the composer's son, Peter Bartok. This collection of 153 pieces for piano, written by Bela Bartok in 1945 for "didactic" (educational) purposes, reflects the influence of folk music on the composer's style. Bartok described Mikrokosmos as a "small world" or "world of the little ones, the children," with pieces in diverse styles representing a wide range of technical and musical difficulty. The 153 pieces are divided into six volumes, with Volume 2 focusing on teaching concepts such as staccato, legato, broken-chord accompaniment, and accents.
