Description
The definitive 1987 edition of the piano teaching classic "Mikrokosmos" includes an introduction by the composer's son, Peter Bartók. In 1945, Béla Bartók described "Mikrokosmos" as a cycle of 153 piano pieces written for "didactic" or instructional purposes, seeing them as a series representing a "small world" or the "world of the little ones, the children." Stylistically, "Mikrokosmos" reflects the influence of folk music on Bartók's life, and its rhythms and harmonies create a modern, timeless sound even today. The 153 pieces are divided into six volumes arranged by technical and musical difficulty.
