Description
The definitive 1987 edition of the piano teaching classic "Mikrokosmos" includes an introduction by the composer's son, Peter Bartók. In 1945, Béla Bartók described this cycle of 153 piano pieces as written for "didactic" (educational) purposes, representing a "small world" or "world of the little ones, the children." Stylistically, Mikrokosmos reflects the influence of folk music on Bartók's life, and the rhythms and harmonies create a modern yet timeless sound. The 153 pieces are divided into six volumes, arranged by increasing technical and musical difficulty.
