Description

Franz Schubert left behind an unparalleled body of work for piano duet - a total of 54 compositions, 32 of which have opus numbers. This repertoire includes fantasias, dances, marches, variations, rondos, and sonatas. Schubert's contemporaries in his circle of friends cherished the shared experience of making music together, and even today, musicians delight in performing these pieces.

The Henle Urtext editions organize Schubert's four-hand piano works chronologically across three volumes. Volume II contains 26 pieces in total, 19 of which are grouped into four sets: Trois marches militaires, four Ländler, Grandes Marches et Trios, and Polonaises. These works date from the period of 1818 to 1826. While the C major Sonata D 812, also known as the "Grand Duo," stands out as the undisputed favorite in this collection, the seven marches included are all exceptional compositions worthy of acclaim.
