Description
Composed four years after Fauré's first cello sonata, this second sonata was substantially more catchy and playful. It enjoyed great success with audiences and critics from its premiere in May 1922. As composer Vincent d'Indy wrote to Fauré the day after the premiere, "I would like to tell you how much I am still charmed by your so beautiful sonata. In it I found what is seemingly forgotten these days: music." The sonata rapidly became a staple of the concert repertoire, a position it maintains to this day. Fingerings for the work were provided by the duo of David Geringas and Markus Bellheim.
