Description

Rachmaninoff's second and third piano concertos are both highly acclaimed, but the debate over which is his "best" work is ultimately a matter of personal taste. However, there is no denying the enduring popularity and immense technical difficulty of the "Rach 3" concerto. Composed in 1909, this work was dedicated to Polish pianist Josef Hofmann, who was initially reluctant to perform it publicly during his lifetime. It was not until Vladimir Horowitz championed the piece that it gained widespread recognition on the concert stage.

For this new edition, the editors were able to consult not only the original published score and recordings, but also the composer's autograph full score, which is housed at the British Library. As with all of G. Henle Publishers' Rachmaninoff editions, the fingerings have been provided by renowned virtuoso pianist Marc-André Hamelin.
