Description

Rachmaninoff's legendary Opus 18, affectionately known as "Rach 2," is widely regarded as the quintessential Romantic piano concerto. After its acclaimed 1901 premiere in Moscow, the work became a global sensation, cementing Rachmaninoff's international reputation as a composer. To this day, the concerto's captivating themes and elegiac string melodies are considered the hallmarks of Rachmaninoff's style and Russian music more broadly. For this Urtext edition, we examined the original autograph score at Moscow's Glinka Museum and consulted Rachmaninoff's own sound recordings. The newly prepared piano reduction faithfully reflects the also newly edited orchestral score and parts, both of which are now available from Breitkopf & Härtel.
