Description
At the end of the 18th century, the French cellist and composer Jean-Baptiste Bréval wrote not only virtuosic concertos for his instrument, but also more accessible sonatas and duets that remain essential works in the cello pedagogical repertoire. His Sonata in C major, Op. 40 No. 1 opens with impressive chords and offers beginner cellists the opportunity to explore beautiful melodies and master smaller shifts in position.
The original 1799 Parisian edition left the choice of accompanying instrument open. This Urtext edition therefore provides multiple options - a two-part score that allows a second cello to comfortably accompany during lessons, as well as a moderate piano reduction suitable for concert performance. Rounding out this comprehensive cello resource is a carefully marked solo part.
