Description

Tchaikovsky's violin works, beyond his famous concerto, have become staples in the standard violin repertoire. A prime example is the Valse-Scherzo, a piece brimming with witty playfulness that he composed in 1877 for his close friend and student, the violinist Josef Kotek. This new Henle Urtext edition, meticulously edited by Russian Tchaikovsky scholar Alexander Komarov, is a faithful reproduction of the original sources. Komarov was able to consult all the relevant materials in the Russian archives, shedding light on the work's complex genesis. This edition serves as a prelude to a comprehensive collection of Tchaikovsky's complete works for violin and piano, including the Sérénade mélancolique op. 26 and Souvenir d'un lieu cher op. 42.
