Description
Johan Halvorsen’s masterful “Passacaglia” for violin and viola, a free adaptation of a theme by Handel, has become a staple encore in concert performances. Composed in 1893, this duo is paired in the Henle Urtext edition with its companion piece, the “Sarabande con Variazioni,” written in 1898, which also showcases a Handelian theme. The fingerings and bowings in the Urtext scores are derived from a single source, the renowned violin and viola virtuoso Henning Kraggerud. Additionally, Halvorsen’s original performance markings can be accessed through the Henle Library app, while a knowledgeable preface by Halvorsen specialist Øyvin Dybsand enhances the overall edition.
