Description
The three sonatas in question have some attribution issues. The Sonata in G minor, BWV 1020, is most likely the work of Bach's son Carl Philipp Emanuel, despite being commonly performed on the flute today, as the sources list it for the violin. Interestingly, the lowest melodic note is d1, hinting that it may have been a flute arrangement of a violin sonata.
The other two sonatas also have uncertain origins in terms of their sources. However, their slow movements display a melodic mastery characteristic of Johann Sebastian Bach's compositions. Unless definitive evidence emerges attributing them to another composer, the traditional assignment to "Father" Bach will be maintained.
