Description
The Hoffmeister Viola Concerto, along with the Stamitz concerto, is the most important audition piece for viola players. However, this work has a complex source tradition, surviving in a single contemporary manuscript covered with numerous markings. This new piano reduction reconstructs the earliest textual layer in the source, thereby providing the closest representation of Hoffmeister's original intentions. The reconstructed original is accompanied by a detailed critical commentary, and features fingering and bowing marks added by renowned violist Kim Kashkashian.
