Description

The name Oskar Rieding may not be widely recognized in concert programs, but it is highly familiar to violin students. Even today, Rieding's short concert pieces for violin and piano, written in the early 20th century specifically for beginners, remain staples of lessons and recitals. His Op. 35 Concerto in B minor, limited to the first position, is particularly well-suited for those starting out on the instrument. For this Urtext edition, based on the first printing, editor Annette Oppermann had the valuable assistance of Slovenian Rieding specialist Maruša Zupančič, who contributed an insightful preface on the little-known composer.

Description

Oskar Rieding's one-movement Concertino is intended for advanced violin students. Beyond playing in third position, it demands a high degree of dexterity and bowing mastery. The "Hungarian style" in the title refers to Rieding's over three decades of service at Budapest's National Theatre, with the piece's distinctive rhythms evoking Hungarian folk music that will captivate spirited young violinists. This Urtext edition features an insightful preface by Slovenian Rieding specialist Maruša Zupančič, and the solo part markings are provided by experienced violinist Evelyne Grüb-Trauer.
