This album features a selection of Mozart's harpsichord compositions from his childhood years, between the ages of 5 and 9, including 14 pieces from his 1784 'London Notebook'. These early works not only demonstrate Mozart's astounding precocity, but also offer an appealing introduction to the compositions of this renowned composer.

In autumn 1765, Mozart's family traveled to Holland, at the request of Princess Caroline von Nassau-Weilburg. The fame of the prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus had already reached the princess, who "had an extraordinary desire to see this child," according to Leopold Mozart. During their stay in The Hague, Mozart composed the Sonatas for Piano K. 26–31, which could also be accompanied by violin.

At a young age, Mozart's extraordinary talent - widely recognized even then - was attributed to divine inspiration. As children, Mozart and his sister Maria Anna, five years his senior, were celebrated as "Wunderkinder" (prodigies) during their travels across Western Europe from 1763 to 1766.

In 1764, the young Wolfgang Mozart composed six sonatas in London, possibly modeled after Johann Christian Bach's "Opus 2." These versatile works could be performed as piano trios, violin sonatas, or solo piano pieces. The British Library's copy of the edition bears a handwritten note indicating it "belongs to the Queen 1788," suggesting these "Royal" sources were consulted.
