Telemann: Viola Concerto in G Major,

Author : Georg Philipp Telemann

Tags : Viola Concerto

Description

The viola is often overlooked as a solo instrument, which is completely unjust. As early as 1738, Johann Philipp Eisel praised the viola as the "very bowels of music," stressing that it was essential not only for fleshing out the orchestral sound, but also as a "concert voice." This is evidenced by the concertos and concert overtures composed by the renowned Capell-Meister Telemann. Telemann's Concerto in G major is considered one of the earliest works for solo viola and orchestra, and it remains a core part of the repertoire for student musicians. In our Urtext piano reduction, the specialist Kai Köpp has provided valuable insights into the historical performance practice of this piece.

Telemann: Viola Concerto in G major

Author : Georg Philipp Telemann

Description

In addition to being Telemann's sole viola concerto, the Concerto in G major (TWV 51: G 9) is also among the first viola concertos ever composed. Due to its relative ease of mastery, it is appropriate for less experienced players and is part of every violist's basic repertoire.

Telemann: Violin Concerto in D major

Author : Georg Philipp Telemann

Description

Georg Philipp Telemann was among the few composers who truly understood how to cater to the requirements of musicians in his compositions. His works, such as this concerto for four violins without basso continuo, were likely created for specific events or at the behest of acquaintances. This particular concerto stands out as an intriguing piece, where the variety of melodic lines generates a wealth of remarkable auditory effects.
