Description

Haydn's Piano Sonata in E-flat major, composed in 1794 during his second stay in London, is particularly renowned among his piano works. During this time, Haydn became acquainted with the new English fortepiano, which featured a fuller sound, pedals, and a larger range. These expanded sound capabilities may have inspired Haydn to employ a notably richer, more chordal texture in the first two movements of the sonata. Renowned pianist András Schiff, who has collaborated extensively with G. Henle Publishers on critical editions of Bach and Mozart, was engaged to provide fingerings for this exceptional Urtext edition of the work.
