Description
This volume contains virtually all of Johannes Brahms' early piano works, including his opus 1, 2, 4, 5, and 10. These pieces, composed between 1851 and 1854, showcase the young composer and pianist's introduction to the public. The standout work is the Scherzo op. 4 from 1851, which impressed Robert Schumann and led him to highlight Brahms' talent in his famous 1853 article "New Paths." Also featured are the Four Ballades op. 10, composed the following year, which strike a more Romantic tone that Brahms described as "not very difficult, and even less difficult to understand." This Urtext edition offers a revised musical text based on the new Brahms Complete Edition, accompanied by an extensive preface from editor Katrin Eich.
