Description
In 1849, Schumann composed a trio of chamber works for wind instruments: the "Three Fantasy Pieces" op. 73 for clarinet, the "Adagio and Allegro" op. 70 for horn, and the "Three Romances" op. 94 for oboe. Interestingly, the "Three Romances" was also published with an alternative solo part for violin or clarinet, much to the delight of violinists. While the original manuscript Schumann gifted to his wife Clara in 1849 has not been preserved, the Urtext edition was able to consult autograph drafts to rectify many of the inconsistencies present in the 1851 first edition.
