Description
Henle Publishers is proud to present a meticulous Urtext edition of one of Rachmaninoff's most important and substantial piano works. Rachmaninoff was dissatisfied with the dense textures and length of his Piano Sonata in B-flat minor, so he made numerous cuts and "streamlined" the piece nearly 20 years after its initial composition and publication. This revised version has been criticized by pianists, leading most to perform the original unabridged work or a mixture of the two versions, such as the rendition by Vladimir Horowitz (with Rachmaninoff's permission).
This Urtext edition contains both Rachmaninoff's original and revised versions in their entirety, drawing from the composer's autograph housed in the Moscow Glinka Museum. Renowned pianist Marc-André Hamelin has provided the fingerings throughout this comprehensive publication.
