Description

The Fantasies op. 116 and the Intermezzi op. 117 were likely composed by Johannes Brahms during the summer of 1892 in Bad Ischl. His time in the Salzkammergut region seems to have inspired Brahms to write solo piano works, as he produced additional cycles there the following year. Op. 116, part of Brahms' late melancholy piano pieces, is particularly characterized by contrasts - four "dreamy" intermezzi, as described by Clara Schumann, are juxtaposed with three "deeply passionate" capricci. These seven characteristic Brahms compositions are also accessible to non-virtuoso pianists due to their moderate technical demands. This revision contains the musical text from the new Brahms Complete Edition.
