The slow third movement of Debussy's four-movement Suite bergamasque (HN 381), known as "Clair de Lune," is likely the composer's most famous piano piece. Although the harmony is conventional, the tonal and melodic details already foreshadow Debussy's later piano style. While the suite wasn't published until 1905, Debussy dated the composition as 1890, indicating it was an earlier work. The fact that he approved its publication suggests he still felt a connection to this piece, despite having moved on from the style it represented.
