Description
In 1840, Schumann's "year of song," he composed over 100 lieder, including the collection Myrthen op. 25, which he dedicated "to his dear bride," Clara Wieck-Schumann. This collection featured famous songs like "Widmung," "Lotosblume," and "Nussbaum" set to texts by German poets, as well as pieces inspired by the Scottish Highlands and Italy. Schumann specialist Kazuko Ozawa examined the first edition and manuscript sources, uncovering early versions of individual songs that are published in an appendix. This Urtext edition also includes an extensive history of the composition of Myrthen, making it a valuable addition to G. Henle Verlag's series of Schumann's song cycles.
