Description
When Brahms' contemporaries first heard his Piano Pieces op. 118, they were delighted. Clara Schumann was among the first to be allowed to experience these new works, and she praised them as containing "a wealth of sentiment in the smallest of dimensions." Philipp Spitta aptly described the pieces as "perfect for slowly absorbing in solitude and tranquillity."
The melancholic A-major Intermezzo op. 118 no. 2 is considered one of Brahms' most well-known miniatures. G. Henle Publishers is now offering this piece in a separate edition. Its moderate level of difficulty also provides advanced students a glimpse into the rich world of Brahms' late compositions.
