Description

During his tenure as court organist in Weimar from 1713 to 1714, Bach meticulously adapted numerous concertos by his contemporaries for keyboard or organ solo. It wasn't until over two decades later, in 1735, that he unveiled his masterpiece, the Concerto in the Italian Style, a truly innovative composition that stands as the pinnacle of this musical genre. Unfortunately, the original manuscript is no longer in existence. Consequently, for Henle’s Urtext edition, Bach's corrected first printed version served as the primary source. The dynamic markings of forte and piano within the piece signify the interplay between the collective sound and individual solo passages.
