Description
The most important source for Bach's Cello Suites is a copy made by his wife Anna Magdalena, as the original autograph is no longer extant. While the actual musical text in this copy is largely unproblematic, the slurs - a critical element for string instruments - are highly imprecise, forcing editors to make difficult interpretive decisions. Our practical edition, HN 666, provides both the Urtext version with preface and critical commentary, as well as a separate performance part. Additionally, the companion study score (HN 9666) includes the Urtext along with a reproduction of Anna Magdalena's copy, allowing both cellists and music enthusiasts to examine the much-debated issues for themselves.
