Description
It is indeed a matter of regret that Beethoven composed only four piano quartets, as these compositions are among the most esteemed in this particular genre. Three of these quartets, designated WoO 36, were created during his time in Bonn, marking them as some of the most notable works from his early career. While they exhibit influences of Mozart, they are distinctly characteristic of Beethoven's style. Further testament to his appreciation for these pieces is evident in his incorporation of the slow movement from the third quartet into his first Piano Sonata, Op. 2 No. 1. The fourth quartet serves as an alternative arrangement of the Wind Quintet, Op. 16.
