Description
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy knew he could rely on his highly gifted sister Fanny as a partner in four-hand piano pieces. While he composed only a few works in this genre, the two pieces presented here are superb examples. The Andante con variazioni, op. 83, further develops his cycle of the same name for solo piano. The Duet - Andante and Allegro assai vivace - was originally titled the Allegro brillant, op. 92, but that was merely an early version. Mendelssohn's complete and revised final version is now being published for the first time by Henle Verlag, with the earlier version provided in an appendix for comparison.
