Description
Johannes Brahms's organ compositions serve as a significant framework for his entire body of work. In the mid-1850s, during a period of deep engagement with counterpoint, he created several preludes and fugues, including the chorale prelude "O Traurigkeit, o Herzeleid." Conversely, his Eleven Chorale Preludes, op. 122, represent his final compositions, completed in 1896, shortly before and after the passing of Clara Schumann. The newly revised Henle Urtext edition consolidates all of Brahms's organ works into a single volume, adhering to the musical text of the New Brahms Complete Edition, and includes a preface and commentary that incorporate the most recent scholarly insights. Additionally, the early versions of two pieces are provided in an appendix.
