Description
Chopin's two cycles of Etudes, op. 10 and op. 25, published in 1833 and 1837 respectively, are remarkable achievements. Prior to Chopin, technical practice pieces had not attained such musical sophistication. Chopin's Etudes are character pieces brimming with tension, composed for the concert hall. These virtuosic works, including enduring favorites like the "Revolutionary Etude" op. 10 no. 12, are essential to the pianist's repertoire. In addition to the op. 10 and op. 25 cycles, this Urtext edition includes three Etudes without opus number that Chopin composed in 1840 for a Parisian piano method - lyrical miniatures that can stand alongside the 24 grand studies.
