Description
Schumann's "Pieces for Piano" op. 68, initially conceived as a birthday album for his daughter Marie, went on to receive tremendous worldwide acclaim. It is a piano repertoire staple, with few students who have not played at least part of the collection. However, a lesser-known fact is that Schumann also composed a "music historical course of instruction" for the piano to accompany the "Album." This and other pieces originally intended for the "Album" have been included in the appendix of our painstakingly revised Urtext edition. Rounding out this edition is Ludwig Richter's illustration for the title page of the first edition, as well as a trilingual version of Schumann's "Advice to Young Musicians," providing a vivid glimpse into the middle-class musical culture of Schumann's era.
