Description
The work, in which Liszt draws on five distinct folk themes, is undoubtedly one of his most ingenious Hungarian Rhapsodies. It blends melancholy, dazzling keyboard virtuosity, and rousing, tempestuous dance. Dedicated to Joseph Joachim, this rhapsody achieved such popularity that it was soon arranged for violin and piano, piano four-hands, and orchestra, in addition to the original piano version. We now present this work in a reliable Urtext edition, preceded by a preface from the esteemed Liszt scholar Mária Eckhardt, as with Liszt's other published rhapsodies.
